Science Notes

Science Notes, our annual research magazine, contains full-length narratives written by students in our winter-quarter feature class, taught by program director Robert Irion. In the spring quarter, each writer adds a podcast, overseen by producer Molly Bentley of the SETI Institute; an infographic, mentored by graphics director Pai of the San Jose Mercury News; and photos or slideshows, shepherded by web producer Mary Miller of The Exploratorium and independent videographer Lisa Strong. Further, the writers collaborate with artists from the Science Illustration Program at California State University, Monterey Bay, on original illustrations—a preview of the real-world partnerships between writers and graphic designers or artists at print and online publications today.
