Science Notes, our annual magazine, contains full-length narratives written by students in our winter-quarter feature class, taught by program director Robert Irion. In the spring quarter, each writer adds a podcast, overseen by producer Molly Bentley of the SETI Institute, as well as photos, slideshows, and videos, shepherded by web producer Mary Miller of The Exploratorium and independent videographer Lisa Strong. Further, the writers collaborate with artists from the Science Illustration Program at California State University, Monterey Bay, on original illustrations—a preview of the real-world partnerships between writers and graphic designers or artists at print and online publications today.
