After 20 years of publishing our occasional magazine on tree fiber, we're moving to fiber optics. Henceforth, Science Notes from Santa Cruz will be available only on the World Wide Web. Those who wish to subscribe need only email the Science Communication Program, and they will receive email notices whenever a new issue appears. The notices will contain titles and brief descriptors of each article, along with the URL where the entire Science Notes (and some back issues) may be viewed.

All the articles are written and illustrated by students in the graduate program in science communication, class of 1996. Please negotiate reproduction rights directly with the writer and illustrator of any story you may wish to reproduce. We hope to link the articles with their creators' home pages. Until then, you may email the Program for grads' email addresses: scicom@cats.ucsc.edu.
